Colour Paradise Greenhouses is located just outside of Kitchener in the town of Mannheim (3 minutes west of the Sunrise Centre in Kitchener), it’s a 100,000 ft² greenhouse (60,000 ft² of growing space, with 40,000 ft² of retail space) open from March-October every year growing and selling annuals, perennials, vegetables and tropicals during that time.

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced and self-driven Retail Manager to join our team. As the Retail Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day store operations and managing the retail team.

The  Retail Manager will be responsible for a variety of duties including managing overall retail store operations, recruiting and scheduling employees, and allocating responsibilities to the team. You will work closely with the greenhouse owners to meet our goals of providing quality plants, excellent customer service, and a beautiful and easy shopping experience every year.

This is a full-time position from March to October with long hours in the Spring, but a very flexible time in the Winter. Experience as a retail manager or equivalent is a must, knowledge of plants is an asset but not mandatory, but a desire to learn is required!

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Regularly communicating and working closely with senior team members and Colour Paradise Owners;
  • Oversee and manage the retail team (up to 35 people during our busiest time in May;
  • Monitoring inventory and daily ordering plants for retail, keeping the store stocked with plants, with tables full and sellable;
  • Receive customer feedback and complaints and resolve to the customer’s satisfaction;
  • Organize and manage all store operations and allocate responsibilities to team members;
  • Planning and executing sales, including programming in the POS system and signage throughout retail;
  • Scheduling to manage multiple team members availability and desired hours, as well as the changing needs in retail based on time of the season;
  • Receiving and making phone calls as necessary, as well as sending and receiving emails;
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and organised retail environment;
  • Conducting interviews, hiring, and training staff;
  • Supervise and guide staff towards maximum performance;
  • Create a healthy and enjoyable store work environment;
  • Managing customer flow through the store;
  • Being present in the store, inspecting departments and resolving any issues that might arise;


Essential Background and Skills

  • Experience as a retail manager or equivalent is required;
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities;
  • Excellent customer service insight, with a friendly demeanour and attitude;
  • Proven leadership skills and excellent organisational skills to manage a team during a busy and high paced season;
  • Work well with a team and independently;
  • Must be comfortable using a computer;
  • POS system knowledge;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Love or knowledge of plants is an asset, an interest in learning is required;
  • Organization and scheduling skills to manage multiple team members availability and desired hours;
  • Reliability and dependability are key traits;
  • Strong work ethic and a desire to improve and succeed;
  • Good knowledge of sales and marketing;
  • Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on the company’s success;
