Snakeroot, bugbane both seem like poor names for an interesting plant. Actaea is also known as Cimicifuga, depending on which resources you use. The foliage resembles Astilbe, but with a unique flower rising high above the plant. 'Brunette' has consistently bronze-purple foliage throughout the season and large dense spikes of white flowers. Best foliage colour in morning sun but tolerant of warmer spots, too.
