Hamelia is called the Texas Firebush for its visual impact on the landscape, either as mass planting or a specimen. The flowers have lots of nectar for hummingbirds and butterflies, and produce edible fruit. A native of Florida, it is tolerant of high heat. Ample soil moisture or some shade will the keep the leaves looking fresh through the hottest part of the season. Hamelia can reach a few feet tall in a season and responds to pruning.
