Hellebores are a welcome sight in the early spring. When they actually bloom depends on how much snow is left on them when the snowdrops start blooming, but certainly by the time silver maples and primula bloom. Helleborus have thick leathery leaves from which the glorious nodding, cup-shaped flowers emerge. The breeders have been finding more and more exciting colours. 'First Dance' is part of the 'Wedding Party' Series. Bright yellow flowers with maroon edge veining top the evergreen foliage. A stunning April vision. Little bothered by pests or diseases, but may sulk if you move it once planted. Best in some shade.
