Matteuccia struthiopteris - Ostrich Fern
If you have a moist, shady part of the garden, ferns are a lovely way to stray from hosta. There are many types of ferns, changes in frond size, shape which of course will affect the feel of the garden. Matteuccia is the culinary fiddlehead that is harvested in the spring. It is a tall fern, its majestic fronds lending a lushness to the quiet shade garden. Best success in dappled shade and moist soil.
