Welcome the unmistakable scent of lavender into your landscape, kitchen or winter sachets. There are many cultivars of lavender. They thrive in full sun with well draining soil. The flowers attract many pollinators. Most commonly known are English (Lavendula angustifolia), Spanish (L. stoechas), French (L.dentata) and a hybrid L.x intermedia. Within these are variations in hardiness, plant habit and flower colour.
Spanish lavender, (L. stoechas) has the fascinating flower with the cluster of bracts at the top of the flower. It is perhaps more drought hardy than English, but not winter hardy at all. Enjoy it as an annual.
