Epimedium is perhaps the best dry shade plant for the landscape. The almost evergreen foliage shows when the snow is gone. The flowers emerge to entertain and as they fade, the new foliage expands to cover the old flower stalks. It bulks up nicely under a tree. There is even a choice in leaf and flower colours. Who could ask for anything more? Epimedium x rubrum has small cherry red flowers and bronzy marbled foliage.
